Electrolysis FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is suitable for treatment?
Anyone who has unwanted hair growth. Electrolysis is effective on all skin types and all hair types and colours.
What methods of electrolysis do we use?
We use modern methods of Thermolysis (synchro, multiplex and picoflash), Multi Galvanic and Blend.
How does electrolysis work?
Electrolysis is the only FDA approved method of permanent hair removal.
A fine probe is inserted in a natural opening in the skin with little to no sensation. Then a short pulse of energy is applied which will stop any form of nourishment to the stem cells of the follicle leading to complete destruction.
What areas can be treated?
The full face includes eyebrows, nose, ears and hairline. All areas of the body including the bikini line, underarms, breasts, back, neck, arms, legs and many more.
How long will it take?
This depends on the strength, density and temporary methods of hair removal that have been used prior to commencing electrolysis. Using the latest technology Apilus Platinum Pure hair will be removed permanently in 12-24 months.
Hair Growth Cycles
It is very important to understand hair growth cycles. When a hair is removed it can take 6-12 weeks to grow back again. E.g. you may think you only have a few hairs which you tweeze every day, however the hairs you tweezed last week are not the same hairs that are present today remember they take 6 weeks to re-grow. Another e.g. if you wax every 4-8 weeks you are probably seeing half of your full hair growth. To get an idea of the the full extent of your growth in an area you would have to leave the area for approx 3 months. It is very important not to tweeze or wax in between treatments as we have to wait for the hair to re-grow. Cutting, shaving, bleaching or using depilatory cream are methods of hair removal that can be used in between treatments.
How is electrolysis different to laser or IPL hair removal?
Electrolysis has been used for more than 125 years. Laser has been around since the 1980’s.
Electrolysis is FDA approved as permanent hair removal. Laser is FDA approved as permanent hair reduction.
The energy from Laser or IPL has to travel down the hair shaft to the base of the follicle. In electrolysis, a high frequency of radio wave is sent straight into the follicle which is extremely effective in the destruction of the follicle.
For the treatment of Laser/IPL to be effective, the treated hair has to be dark, pigmented hair. Therefore Laser/IPL’s success is dependent on the hair colour and type. Laser/IPL is not recommended to treat fine vellus hairs which grow on females faces. Electrolysis is not dependent on the hair type or colour because energy is applied directly to the targeted area.
